Subtitle translations for international success

Professional subtitling is crucial for your corporate videos, especially in the technical field, because this is the only way to quickly reach an international audience. With subtitling, you can make the content of films available internationally quickly and cost-effectively, which saves a lot of time and money compared to having videos translated and dubbed.

Perfect subtitling is particularly important for technical content, because good subtitles are characterized by precise timing, good readability and genuine language that blends harmoniously into the overall picture of the video and therefore does not disrupt it. This is achieved with intercultural sensitivity and the appropriate technical background that our translators at PRODOC have.

We offer subtitling translation for these video formats, among others:

  • Product presentations
  • Training videos
  • Company presentations
  • Instructions & tutorials
  • Promotional videos

Videos in addition to trade show presentations

Throughout the Corona pandemic, many of our customers had trade fair budgets that they could not spend. They invested some of the money in subtitling or dubbing videos, e.g. for product presentations and training videos. This has created a new and interesting field for technical translation in a short space of time.

Advantages of subtitling

When you opt for subtitling your videos, you get the best and fastest solution for presenting audiovisual content to your audience. Subtitling offers numerous advantages over dubbing, as subtitling preserves the original audio version and all non-verbal content remains unchanged. Even if there are problems with audio playback, the content can be recognized, i.e. access to the content is still possible.

At the same time, subtitling ensures that your videos are accessible, as they can be fully understood by people with hearing impairments. In addition, subtitled videos appeal to a larger group of people: On the one hand, the people who speak the original language of the audio file and, on the other, the people who speak the language of the subtitled video. Moreover, subtitling is also much cheaper than dubbing.

How does subtitling work?

Subtitling is an audiovisual translation with its own rules and techniques. This is a so-called constrained translation, which means that there are spatial restrictions that must be taken into account during translation. It is a complex process in which the focus is not only on the content of the text, but the two parameters of display time and space must also be taken into account. Subtitles normally consist of two subtitle lines that are displayed at the bottom center of the screen. Each line consists of 35 characters, including letters, symbols or spaces. The time limit for the display is between one and a maximum of 6 seconds.

Our workflow

Video subtitling usually consists of the following steps:

PRODOC offers you these services

An SRT file is required for subtitling as well as for dubbing videos. This SRT file contains the spoken text together with timing information.

Video subtitling includes the following services:

  • Transcription
  • Segmentation and time cueing
  • Translation
  • Burning in the subtitles

The video with subtitles is delivered in the same format as the original video.

Dubbing as an additional option

In addition to subtitling, we also offer professional video dubbing. Going to a recording studio is particularly expensive because several people are involved. We therefore charge a minimum flat rate for films that are shorter than 5 minutes. For longer films, staggered prices per minute apply.

A few other services will ensure that your synchronization job is a success.

For videos in which several speakers appear, additional speakers can be booked for the dubbing.

We avoid surprises by thoroughly planning the sound recordings and determining how, for example, company names or product names should be pronounced in the foreign language.

For special requirements in terms of pitch and voice, our customers can choose special voice actors from a voice archive.
