Why PRODOC?

PRODOC Translation GmbH has been active on the market as a technical translation agency for Italian since 1992. We use CAT tools

CAT tools are translation programs that make it possible to reuse translations that have already been made. Here, all entries are entered exclusively by hand and optimized for the respective customer. For our customers who need a technical translation, this means:

• A separate glossary for each customer. They can also use the glossary via a web interface as a terminology source for internal, company-specific purposes. Even without the support of PRODOC, they can look up a term that perfectly matches the terminology of the respective company’s documents at any time.
• The CAT tool saves entire sentences in a translation memory after translation. These sentences are automatically used by the CAT tool for subsequent translations. This saves time and money for subsequent translations.

Warum überhaupt deutsch – italienisch übersetzen?

In the technical field, English is considered the “lingua franca” throughout Europe, i.e. a language that is generally understood – however, national language peculiarities in terminology must also be taken into account, especially in industry. Technical manuals, descriptions of machines and systems or data sheets in particular depend on the smallest details, which can only be conveyed reliably in the respective national language. As the sixth largest economy in the world, Italy is an extremely important trading partner for Germany. Italian SMEs in particular, but also large international corporations from the automotive, mechanical engineering and energy technology sectors, maintain close contacts with their German partner companies.

Why PRODOC when there is Google?

While everyday communication can undoubtedly be translated into a reasonably comprehensible language using the automatic tools of Google and the like, automatic translators fail when translating technical texts.

The reason for this lies in the industry-specific terminology, which can even differ from region to region and even from company to company. For example, if a company’s toolmaking department requests a new “MC”, no automatic tool will understand this abbreviation as “machining centre”.
