Technical translation English-Croatian

There are a total of 24 official languages in the European Union. One of the lesser known is Croatian. However, the language enjoys official status not only at European level, but also in a total of six countries.

For this reason, suppliers of products for explosion protection and safety at work must also have user manuals translated into Croatian. With our price calculator you can quickly determine the expected costs.

Solutions for efficient Croatian translations

The Croatian language connects people in different countries

Of the approximately seven million people who consider Croatian to be their mother tongue, only around four million actually live in Croatia. A further three million people whose first language is Croatian are spread across the former Yugoslav republics of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro and Serbia. But the language is also so widespread in parts of Austria and Hungary that it is considered official in certain regions.

However, due to the close linguistic relationship between Croatian and other Serbo-Croatian varieties such as Serbian or Bosnian, the actual number of people who can follow a conversation in Croatian is much higher than is generally assumed.

Germany as Croatia’s most important trading partner

Croatian is therefore of crucial importance for German companies that maintain business relations with the Balkan countries. Following Croatia’s joining the European Union in 2013, economic relations between the two countries have deepened further. As the small country’s most important trading partner, Germany plays a special role in the Croatian economy. Machinery and technical equipment in particular, but also other capital and consumer goods from Germany make up a considerable proportion of Croatian imports.

However, even the best machine is of limited use without clear operating instructions in the local language. That’s why we at PRODOC are happy to provide technical translations into Croatian.

In order to create precise and unambiguous operating instructions in Croatian, the translator’s technical background is essential. Only if this person has the appropriate training can it be ensured that the necessary specialist terminology is available.

Our English-Croatian translators are therefore usually engineers or technicians with in-depth expert knowledge that enables them to translate demanding technical texts with confidence.

They use this knowledge not only to translate complex operating instructions, but also to create advertising texts for flyers and brochures.

Native speakers also have the right feel for the language and its subtleties.

In addition to their technical knowledge, PRODOC’s translators, as native speakers, also have the right feel for the subtleties and peculiarities of the Croatian language. They are able to detect dangerous pitfalls and elegantly avoid them when translating from English into Croatian.

Unlike many other countries in the Balkans, where Cyrillic letters are used, our English-Croatian translators can largely rely on the Latin alphabet for their work. However, this is supplemented by a few special characters, so that the Croatian alphabet today comprises a total of 30 characters. Instead, some of the letters commonly used in English have been dropped. In addition to the Q and the W, the X and the Y do not appear in the Croatian script.

However, the Latin alphabet was first introduced in Croatia in the 18th century. Previously, scribes used the Glagolitic script, which was developed in the 9th century and is considered the oldest of the Slavic scripts.
